Best film of the year (next to Out of the Furnace), best portrayal of a sociopath and my kind of night cinematography. Also a great satire on media and “making it”/ruthless ambition and corporate careers. Highly recommended as a must see:

ANOTHER NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF CINEMA
- Dez Vylenz
From the exhibitor’s point of view there is an argument for this though. Ofcourse the traditional business model is dying and the big 6 month windows between theatrical and VOD release etc. are obsolete, but when you’ve got overheads of brick and mortar venues with staff etc., then how can you compete against online streaming. […]

20,000 Days on Earth
- Dez Vylenz
Need a break from the monotony of admin and digital bollocks. Seeing this tonight, with live interview broadcast to selected cinemas near you: Seems interesting, particularly since I considered doing a documentary about #Nick Cave back in 1999, but he was curating Meltdown at the time, so we went for #Alan Moore, another inspiring and […]

London Fog
- Dez Vylenz
London Fog today: Some spooky Sherlock Holmes moods. Grabbed the camera to take some shots for my next short film. “…and there he was, out from the fog as if he’d never been away.” “…This was the house to avoid at all cost. But they had no choice then to enter, for tonight was the […]

Independent Film Company anniversary
- Dez Vylenz
Shadowsnake Limited. Founded 17 September 2001. Which makes it the 12th anniversary today, how time flies, how much has changed since then. Logging through LA Disney Studios to Amsterdam and London with VHS tapes. So many obsolete formats, so many changes in business models. More focus now, more clarity, more wisdom. More ideas and energy […]

Development Hell / Rambo is a pussy
- Dez Vylenz
25th Nov 1975: Suriname became independent from The Netherlands. The colonial age was over. Incredible, time moves on relentlessly with no quarter like a train drilling into the night. Been nearly 2 months since I updated this journal. What happened since then? More business, more routines, more travels. Mid Sept Zagreb in Croatia to meet […]

Special 360 Limited
- Dez Vylenz
I’ve been incommunicado for a while again, transmission faltering in the middle of the storms of business, avalanches of paper and swamps of development hell. Film business is a bitch and then you shoot. Good thing that there are the mystical mountains of martial arts to meditate the body and mind back to silence in […]

Crime movies and classic books
- Dez Vylenz
What’s new? More swine flu panic, more mediocre comedy and horror movies on release. Went to see Public Enemies by Michael Mann. Had higher expectations since I enjoyed Heat, but this all felt a bit dry. Scene to scene, good enjoyable action, but no real sense of context of the times. Nothing really visible of […]

Lego land Blues Again / The Devolution of Cinema
- Dez Vylenz
Been a week since I left Suriname, always takes me a few days to get used to the clinically organised landscape of The Netherlands. Miss the Paramaribo chaos and vibrancy, stray dogs with tails pointing up, now in this Lego land I see most dogs with tails between their legs. Back in Prozac territory it […]
